Syracuse Heroes Expo Recap

I had a really great time this past weekend at the Syracuse Heroes Expo, sold a few books, bought a lot of books and met some cool people. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Candy or Medicine Table.

It was good to hang out with my friends Rob Moses and Cayetano Valenzuela and Art Baltazar was awesome. I liked his Tiny Titans stuff but now I'm a big fan of Patrick the Wolf Boy. Plus, he did some awesome $1, full-color sketches of Li'l Barda, Green Lantern, Superman and Aquaman for me.

My son had a good time as well. He liked the R2D2 someone made (it moved and made noises, just like the one in the movies) and really liked Chewbacca, who I thought he might be scared of but kept asking where Chewbacca went after he left. I told him Chewbacca had to go home and eat. He asked about what Chewbacca was going to eat, to which I replied, "What do you think he likes to eat?" My son responded, "Soup." So apparently, Chewbacca likes soup.

Other highlights: Larry Kenny, who voiced Lion-O, Sonny from the Cocoa Puffs commercials and is the voice of VH1's "Best Week Ever," enjoyed the complimentary Tootsie Rolls at my table. Seeing Kane Hodder, who played Jason in some of the Friday the 13th movies, talking on a pay phone. Finding a Mr. Miracle Super Powers action figure, then talking to Art Baltazar afterward who said he's looking for one with a cape. Total geek moment. I also completed my Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League run, found four cheap treasury comics, purchased a couple Silver Age Green Lantern comics for $2 and came closer to completing my Sensational and Savage She-Hulk runs. I'm also looking forward to reading the second issue of Cayetano's "Twilight Houses" and enjoyed his split sketch book with Issac Bidwell.

Thanks to Jeff Watkins for once again organizing a great show in Central New York. If I'm in the area for next year's, I'll definitely be there.

Funny story about Kane Hodder. I went to a Fango convention in like, 2000 or 1999 and Kane was there as a guest. WE met him, got our pictures taken and stuff. Later, My friends and I were in line for something. Kane and his buddy cut us, but that was cool, and then he farted and blamed me. It was weird.

I also met Lloyd Kaufman. He signed my Class of Nuke 'Em High VHS.

The End.
