Sorry about the lack of updates lately. It's been slow in the Candy or Medicine world. But look for a new issue by the end of the year! Anyhoo, here's what occurred in November:

• Noah Van Sciver presents a recap of MIX and some pages from his forthcoming graphic novel The Hypo.
• William Cardini aka Mark Hensel has some cool stuff going on.

(Super Late) News and Notes, September Edition

Sorry about the delay, but real life has got in the way (hey, that rhymes!).

• High Low reviews Kyle Nolan's Brain Dead Phylum #1 and #2.
• Noah Van Sciver was at SPX.
• Sam Spina has released the Xeric-winning FIGHT and Spinadoodles Year Two.
• Candy or Medicine t-shirts will be ready soon. Maybe as early as Monday. There are various color combinations and sizes available. I will most likely print a couple to have on hand, then take pre-orders for various combinations. Let me know if you want one and what you want it to look like. They will be $10 shipped.

Mini-Comic a Month Challenge for August 2011

I'm a bit late on this one because I've been pretty busy lately plus I was very sick yesterday. So here is my take as well as Kelly's take on a few comics for this month.

 This is a fun (and kind of depressing) look at Jesse Reklaw's experiences with publishing his work. He starts off self-publishing, then eventually finds a publisher, only to learn it's not all that he dreamt it would be.

Not really what I expected it to be, but nonetheless not too bad. Maybe if I had read the first two I would have enjoyed it mroe? This comic was nominated for the 2009 Maisie Kukoc Award for Comics Inspiration. Also, each copy comes with a hand-drawn postcard.

Sam and John each made a short comic about an incident from their childhood. They've been friends since first grade and both became artists. The comics appear together (you can flip the comic after finishing one to see the other) so you can see how they each portray the event. Fun little book and it's only ONE DOLLAR! 

 

 

Bowling Ace

This is a nice tale of cross-generational female bowling power! The mini is lovely but you can also read it on Megan's website. I'd think my young nieces will enjoy it, too.

News and Notes, June Edition

• I could almost fill this whole thing with Noah Van Sciver updates. First, Noah Van Sciver has a Tumblr (make sure to check out the issue of Alpha Flight he drew). He will also appear in the Best American Comics 2011 and in MAD Magazine. He also released a possible cover to his much-anticipated graphic novel, The Hypo. And Sean T. Collins reviews Blammo! #7
• Sam Spina has a new comic out. He's also now a Xeric award winner!
• Rob Clough reviews Rob Jackson's The Gods Must Be Bastards. He also reviews Candy or Medicine Vol. 13. The Poopsheet Foundation reviews Vol. 13 as well.
• Isaac Bidwell and Cayetano Valenzuela will have pieces in a show in San Francisco.
